ESRC Fellowship

Professor Rhodri Thomas has been successful in his application to become an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Business Placement Fellow as part of his academic work with ITT. With ESRC funding, Rhodri will be able to bring together high calibre researchers in the field of environmental management with business leaders from travel and tourism in order to examine how academic research might inform business practice.

Free Marketing and Media Planning Seminar

ITT, in partnership with MNC, is delighted to announce its first marketing and media planning workshop. This event is free to Members and will be held on 17 February 2009 from 2pm - 4pm at MNC’s offices in Farringdon, London.

MNC is also offering ITT Members a free marketing telephone consultation designed to give Members an insight into the ways in which budgets can go further; introduce a ’return on investment’ based approach to direct response marketing, and explain how even limited budgets can be the springboard for “challenger brands” to become market leaders.

Odyssey Supper, 26 February

Simon Hargreaves

At our first Odyssey Supper of 2009 our guest speaker will be Simon Hargreaves, Managing Director of TTA and TTA Worldchoice. He’s a relative newcomer to the travel industry, but has a lot of experience initiating change in a number of businesses. He joined TTA as MD last January at the time it initiated its bid to acquire Worldchoice.


Conference Update
ITT Conference Dubai

More details have been released about the ITT Conference in Dubai. Three social events have been confirmed, and more speakers have come on-board. These include John Walker of Oxford Economics, Stephen Attenborough of Virgin Galactic, and Patrick Allen of The Co-operative Group.


Award Winning Fellow

Oliver Bennett

Congratulations to ITT Fellow Oliver Bennett who won Individual of the Year in The British Expertise International Awards as a result of his team leadership of the Belize Sustainable Tourism Development Programme. Oliver commented: “The fact that British Expertise has recognised the merits of overseas tourism consultancy in this way is, I think, testament to the merit of the work that tourism consultants do. I hope that it also reflects well on the calibre of people that belong to ITT!”

Responsible Holiday Challenge 2009

ITT and Thomas Cook will be jointly sponsoring the Leeds Metropolitan University’s 2009 Responsible Holiday Challenge as a way of educating tomorrow’s tourists about responsible tourism. ITT Board Director, Bill Maxwell said: “The Responsible Holiday Challenge is a fantastic concept and the Institute of Travel & Tourism is delighted to be part of this innovative work of the University. We are proud to be involved and to be able to support this initiative.”

Network ITT London
