ITT TuITTion - July - Issue 16

Just ahead of this year's Student Awards at the Chairman’s Summer Cocktails, we caught up with last year's winner, Lizzie Rumens.

People 1st, the sector skills council, has recently launched a brand new website aimed specifically at careers in travel and passenger transport.

Supported by industry, www.careersthatmove.co.uk is the leading source of information for training and employment for job seekers, employers and training providers.

As part of its ongoing drive to improve standards in the industry, ITT has introduced an accreditation system for trainers and training organisations.

ITT Chair of Education and Training, Claire Steiner said, “We receive many enquiries from organisations and individuals who wish to source a particular kind of training and this new initiative will enable us to recommend suitable sources, secure in the knowledge that they will be reliable and that the training they provide is relevant and appropriate”. One potential ITT accredited trainer said, “I very much welcome this initiative. Although I only want to work in the travel industry, it is inevitable that many of my promotional efforts will bring in enquiries from organisations outside the industry – and it is a waste of my and their time to deal with these. By definition ITT is an organisation whose Members will be in the travel industry and their enquiries will therefore usually be something I will be familiar with. This will mean that both trainers and their customers will save time and effort when considering training interventions”.

ITT Member trainers and training organisations are invited to apply for ITT recognition and will find full details and an application form on the ITT website.

Message from the Chair

One of my many highlights at the recent ITT Conference was Dame Tessa Jowell MP, when she spoke about bringing the Olympics to the UK. I loved that they used young people during the bid to demonstrate the legacy and impact of the Games for future generations. This is a strategy that ITT supports and uses – how better to tell young people about the opportunities in our vibrant industries than hearing from other young people who are already enjoying success?

At the launch of the 2013 State of the Nation report for Passenger Transport and Travel Services, the need for attracting more talent to the sector was highlighted. ITT is happy to work with organisations that help industry employers to achieve this goal. From the TTG Tomorrow’s Travel Leaders to the GTTP scheme - this currently has over 450,000 young people around the globe being introduced to a career in travel and tourism in schools. Future You, is ITT’s signature student event where the latest talent and trends is showcased to aspiring travel and tourism graduates and at the forthcoming Chairman's Summer Cocktails, where we celebrate the success of students when ITT annual student awards are presented. I hope many of you are able to join us.
